Anti-HBe

DESCRIPTION:
Anti HBe are antibodies to the HBe antigen, which is an integral part of the hepatitis B virus.

DETERMINATION:
SAMPLE: Blood (serum)

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
When the result of anti HBe is positive with a positive result of anti HBc and anti HBc IgM, it may indicate an acute phase in transit (when the antigens disappear from the blood). If anti HBe is positive with a positive result of HBsAg and anti HBc, this is a sign of a chronic phase with a reduced risk of liver damage.
