What is AFI+™ treatment?

AFI+™ treatment is long-term skin rejuvenation based on your own skin cells and is much more effective than conventional aesthetic procedures, such as mesotherapy and PRP (blood plasma treatment).

With AFI+™ treatment, there is no use of foreign materials and no need for frequent controls, as is the case with the use of botox or hyaluron. 3 step process

BIOPSY

A dermatologist at the clinic obtains a 3mm skin biopsy from a non-exposed area. Skin is immediately stored in an appropriate medium before transport to the cell culture facility.

FIROBLAST CULTURE

Fibroblasts are isolated from skin explants and grown under optimal conditions. After 4 to 6 weeks of growth, cells are collected and prepared to be returned to the clinic in the appropriate medium.

Implementation

A dermatologist injects fibroblasts optimized injection medium intradermally at the clinic. If required, the implementation can be repeated. A stock of fibroblasts can be maintained at the laboratory for years for future implementation if required.

1. Biopsy

The process begins by taking a small 3mm skin sample. The dermatologist chooses a part of the skin that is well vascularized and not excessively exposed to sunlight in order to isolate biologically younger cells. Dermatologists usually choose the back side of the earlobe for the reasons above. The whole process is done under local anesthesia, which makes it completely painless.

2. Cell culture of fibroblasts

Fibroblast cells are isolated from a small skin sample and grown in optimal conditions for their development and multiplication. The cell culture is maintained for 4 to 6 weeks, after which the cells are collected and prepared for return to the clinic in the appropriate medium. We get approximately 40 to 50 million cells from only a few hundred that we initially isolate from the skin sample. We also froze some of the cells and store them for future use.

3. Implementation

The dermatologist intradermally injects a suspension of fibroblasts in a suitable medium. Injections are usually injected into the entire face, but they can also be directed to a specific area. Also, the treatment can be applied to the hands, neckline or any other area that is subject to aging. In order to achieve the best possible results, the application of fibroblasts is performed using Micronjet® needles (NanoPass Technologies LTD) to ensure that all cells are injected into the dermis. If necessary, the injection can be repeated because the stocks of fibroblasts are stored in the cell culture laboratory and can be maintained for years.

Effectiveness against wrinkles and scars and comparison with conventional aesthetic procedures:

As we age, wrinkles and sagging skin appear on different parts of the face, most often in the corners of the lips, around the eyes, on the forehead and between the eyebrows. These changes are primarily caused by the loss of important skin components such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. Acne scars are also caused by a similar process. Since it is the fibroblasts that are responsible for the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, their replacement not only restores a younger appearance but acutaly rejuvenetes your skin. 

Various “dermal fillers” such as collagen and hyaluronic acid have been used for a long time to correct such skin defects. Since the content of these important components decreases significantly during aging, their external implementation can improve the condition and appearance of the skin. However, such effect lasts only for a short period of time, since the hyaluronic acid and collagen preparations used are synthetic and foreign to the body, and are therefore quickly broken down and released from the body. 

AFI+™ therapy solves the problem of skin aging with a completely different approach: the patient’s own fibroblasts are injected into the skin, which naturally and intensively produce all the components necessary for a youthful appearance of the skin. Fibroblasts, thanks to their role in the production of the mentioned proteins, maintain the moisture of the skin, its flexibility and firmness. As the number of fibroblasts decreases with age, as does their efficiency in the production of collagen and elastin, increasing their number is an obvious target in the anti-aging industry.

Which results to expect?

Unlike the use of “dermal fillers” which give immediate and temporary results, fibroblast implementation gives progressive results over time in the form of thickening and firming of the skin and restoring elasticity. The first results are visible after weeks, but they continue to improve over the following months and years, and the effect has been shown to last even up to 5 years after treatment. As a result, the skin appears younger, more elastic and fresher, wrinkles fade, and the skin is generally healthier. Clients also do not lose the ability to show natural facial expressions, which is not always the case when using other aesthetic procedures.
