DETERMINATION:
Sample: midstream of first morning urine collected in a sterile container. Deliver to the laboratory within 1 hour.
CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
Urine culture is one of the diagnostic procedures when a urinary tract infection is suspected. By culturing on a specific nutrient medium, the causative agents of inflammation are isolated and identified if present in a certain quantity.
