CK (creatine kinase)

DESCRIPTION:
Creatine kinase is a cellular enzyme. CK is most abundant in skeletal muscle, heart muscle and brain. This is why the diagnostic importance of determining CK activity is primarily in diseases of the muscles, heart and brain. In healthy people, an increase in CK is noted with stronger blows and injuries, as well as intramuscular injections. CK is high in progressive muscular dystrophy, polymyositis, acute myoglobinuria dermatitis, and during heavy physical exertion. For diagnosis, the most important increase in creatine kinase activity in the serum is in myocardial infarction.

DETERMINATION:
Creatine kinase is determined by the UV method according to the IFCC. The sample for analysis is serum or plasma (heparin, EDTA). The sample is stable for 7 days at +4 °C, 24 hours at room temperature.

RESULT:
The reference interval depends on gender, age and the method of determination. The reference interval is displayed on each validated result.
