LDL cholesterol

DESCRIPTION:
LDL cholesterol is a lipoprotein that transports cholesterol into cells. It is known as “bad cholesterol”. A high level of LDL cholesterol is a high risk for the development of coronary heart disease.

DETERMINATION:
LDL cholesterol is determined by a direct photometric method. The sample for analysis is serum. The stability of the sample is 7 days at 2-8°C

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
Increased values of LDL cholesterol are found in obesity, diabetes and nephrosis.

RESULT:
The reference interval depends on gender, age and the method of determination. The reference interval is displayed with each validated result.
