Folic acid

DESCRIPTION:
The cause of nutritional and macrocytic anemia can be folic acid deficiency. Lack of folic acid can be the result of not eating fruits, vegetables or other foods that are rich in folic acid. A low concentration of folic acid in the serum of a pregnant woman is associated with neural tube defects in the fetus. Malnutrition and malabsorption are the main causes of low folic acid concentration in humans. Folic acid is necessary for normal metabolism, DNA synthesis and erythrocyte synthesis.

DETERMINATION:
Determination method: ECLIA Sample for analysis is serum or plasma (Li-heparin). The sample is stable for 2 hours at 20-25°C, 2 days at 2-8°C, one month at -20°C. Hemolysis significantly affects the value of folic acid!

RESULT:
The reference interval depends on gender, age and the method of determination.
