Anti-HBs

DESCRIPTION:
Anti HBs are antibodies that are produced as a response of the body to the hepatitis B virus, more precisely to the surface antigen (antigen s). Testing for anti-HBs is necessary to check the titer of protective antibodies in persons who have been vaccinated against the hepatitis B virus. Then, if hepatitis B is suspected or in persons who have been exposed to the virus.

DETERMINATION:
SAMPLE: Blood (serum)

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
A positive result of anti-HBs can be a sign of immunity to hepatitis B acquired by vaccination, then the antibody titer must be stated in the result. If anti HBs and anti HBc are positive, this is a sign of recovery from infection and naturally acquired immunity.
