Anti-HAV

DESCRIPTION:
The Anti HAV test involves the detection of IgM and IgG anti HAV antibodies (total antibodies to the hepatitis A virus). Hepatitis A virus is widespread in the world. Epidemics occur in areas with a large number of people in poor hygienic conditions because the hepatitis A virus is excreted through stool.

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
IgM antibodies indicate an acute (current infection), while IgG antibodies indicate a previous infection (remains in the blood for life as a result of recovering from hepatitis A). A positive anti-HAV test can also be found in people after vaccination against hepatitis A.
