APTV (Activated partial thromboplastin time)

DESCRIPTION:
APTV-activated partial thromboplastin time is determined to assess the intrinsic pathway of blood coagulation. It serves as a test to detect coagulation disorders. The test is mandatory before every surgical procedure, and in patients on heparin therapy.

DETERMINATION:
Sample: Plasma

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
Increased values of APTV are present in: hemophilia A or B, von Willebrand syndrome, in the absence of fibrinogen or in unfractionated heparin therapy and oral anticoagulant therapy.
