DESCRIPTION:
If a person has symptoms indicating an allergic reaction and testing has shown an elevated total IgE immunoglobulin level, further testing is required. Specifically, following the allergist’s recommendation, it is necessary to determine which specific IgE immunoglobulins to test for in order to detect an allergy to a particular antigen. Fasting is not required before blood collection, but antihistamines must be discontinued 5-6 days prior to testing. At Poliklinika Analiza, it is possible to select a varying number of specific IgE tests for particular allergens. If 20 or more allergens are selected, the price per individual allergen is 100.00 kn. Given the large number of allergens available for testing, detailed information about which allergens are available can be obtained from our healthcare staff or in consultation with an allergist.

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
IgE synthesis occurs primarily in the respiratory and digestive tracts and in lymph nodes. Otherwise harmless antigens such as pollen or mites stimulate B-lymphocytes to produce specific IgE at the site of entry into the body. During subsequent contact of the antigen with the sensitized specific cell, the bound IgE cross-links, the cell degranulates, and inflammatory mediators are released, causing symptoms of hay fever, asthma, or atopic eczema. Elevated IgE levels can be found in atopic dermatitis, seasonal hay fever, and in certain hereditary immunodeficiency conditions, particularly in cases of cellular immune system immunodeficiency.
