Hemochromatosis is a hereditary disease, also known as iron overload disease, and is one of the most common metabolic disorders. It is caused by defects in genes responsible for regulating iron absorption from food. These defects impair the function of these genes and lead to increased iron absorption, which over the years results in its accumulation in the body (liver, heart, joints…) and causes damage. This genetic analysis determines whether there is a risk of developing hemochromatosis and establishes your iron-binding capacity.
