\nAnti TPO – Antibodies to thyroid peroxidase – an enzyme that participates in the production of thyroid hormones (thyroxine, T4 and triiodothyronine, T3). Anti TPO as well as anti-TG indicates some of the autoimmune disorders in the functioning of the thyroid gland. In autoimmune disorders, your immune system makes antibodies that mistakenly attack normal tissue. Antibodies that attack the thyroid gland cause inflammation and damage thyroid function.<\/p>\n

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:<\/strong>
\nAnti TPO and anti TG should be determined if thyroid hormone values deviate from normal values, if changes in the thyroid tissue were observed by ultrasound examination, and in pregnant women with an increased risk of thyroid dysfunction. Elevated result of Anti TPO: \u2013 Hashimoto’s thyroiditis \u2013 primary myxedema \u2013 Graves’ disease. Other autoimmune disorders that can cause elevated anti-TPO include: -Sjogren’s syndrome, -lupus, -rheumatoid arthritis, -pernicious anemia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
