DESCRIPTION:<\/strong>
\nThe karyotype represents the number of chromosomes and their appearance under a microscope, in the nucleus of a eukaryotic cell. It includes a set of chromosomes, i.e. a complete set of chromosomes of a species. Karyotype should not be confused with the term karyogram, which represents a chromosomal picture of a single cell. Each human somatic cell has 46 chromosomes, i.e. 22 homologous pairs of autosomes and one pair of gonosomes (sexual pair of chromosomes). The sex pair of chromosomes is different in women and men. In women, both sex chromosomes have the same shape (XX), and in men they are different (XY).<\/p>\n

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:<\/strong>
\nAny deviation from the normal number of chromosomes (euploidy) for a specific species represents a numerical or numerical chromosome aberration. Changes in the number of chromosomes are characterized by specific symptoms called syndromes. Some of the most common and well-known syndromes resulting from a change in the number of chromosomes are: Down syndrome, Patau syndrome, Edwards syndrome, Klinefelter syndrome. Karyotype in adults is most often necessary for married couples with a problem of sterility or for consecutive abortions in early pregnancy.<\/p>\n
