DESCRIPTION:<\/strong>
\nBlood groups are hereditary characteristics determined by antigens found on blood cells: erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets and plasma proteins. The AB0 blood group system is the first discovered blood group system and at the same time the most important in transfusion practice, within this system we distinguish A, B, AB and 0 blood group. Tests to determine the blood group are performed before a blood transfusion is given, and during the first examination of pregnant women. As part of determining the blood group of the AB0 system, the Rh factor is always determined, that is, whether a person is Rh positive, which means that he has the D antigen on his erythrocytes, or if he is Rh negative, it means that he does not have the D antigen. All blood types are inherited from parents according to Mendel’s laws. As part of determining the AB0 blood group and the Rh system, an indirect antiglobulin test (or Coombs’ test) – IAT is carried out, which uses known test erythrocytes to test whether there are free antibodies in the patient’s serum that could cause difficulties when choosing a compatible dose for transfusion or during pregnancy.<\/p>\n

DETERMINATION:<\/strong>
\nSAMPLE: blood taken in a test tube with EDTA (in the testing, the patient’s ERYTHROCYTES that sediment after centrifugation and PLASMA are used. Method: Immunohematological diagnosis (antigen-antibody reaction) erythrocyte agglutination. Erythrocyte blood groups are determined by the proof of antigens on the erythrocyte membrane using test sera containing anti-A and anti-B antibodies<\/p>\n

(HEMOTEST) and by proving the presence of anti-A and anti-B antibodies in the serum or plasma of the subject using test erythrocytes A1, A2, B and 0 phenotype (erythrotest). Rh factor is determined only by proof of antigen on erythrocytes using anti-D test serum.<\/p>\n

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:<\/strong>
\nAnti-B antibodies are always present in the serum of people with blood group A, anti-A antibodies in people with blood group B, and both anti-A and anti-B antibodies in people with blood group 0. While people with blood group AB do not have anti-A or anti-B antibodies. Erythrocyte antibodies are responsible for the transfusion reaction in case of incompatible transfusion. Antibodies from the Rh system, in contrast to antibodies from the AB0 system, are not found in the serum of healthy people, but in the serum of people who have been transfused with erythrocytes containing antigens that they do not have, or a pregnant woman immunized with the child’s erythrocytes<\/p>\n
