DESCRIPTION:<\/strong>
\nUpon physician’s recommendation during pregnancy, an OGTT \u2013 Oral Glucose Tolerance Test should be performed (if the physician considers there is a risk of developing diabetes in the pregnant woman). The test lasts 2 hours, during which blood is drawn 3 times. Before the test, the patient must be fasting, provides a urine sample, and has a blood sample taken. After checking for the presence of glucose in the urine, if the result is normal, the test continues (if glucose is present in the urine, it means its concentration in the blood is greater than 10 mmol\/L and the physician should be consulted). The patient drinks a glucose solution in water, after which she rests and must not eat or drink. After 60 min from the start of the test (from the moment she started drinking the solution), a second blood sample is taken. After 120 min from the start of the test, a third blood sample is taken. <\/p>\n

DETERMINATION:<\/strong>
\nSample: SERUM and URINE The glucose concentration is tested in the first and second blood samples (enzymatic UV method with hexokinase). In the urine sample, the presence of glucose is tested using a test strip. Glucose can be detected in urine when its concentration in the blood is greater than 10 mmol\/L (depending on the individual’s renal threshold). <\/p>\n

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:<\/strong>
\nELEVATED<\/strong> glucose values in this test indicate diabetes mellitus, thyroid hyperfunction, liver damage, or celiac disease. DECREASED oGTT values can be found in septicemia, viral hepatitis, pancreatic cancer, pheochromocytoma, hyperthyroidism, acromegaly, adrenal cortex hyperfunction, polycystic ovary syndrome, hyperlipoproteinemia, hepatocellular degeneration, cystic fibrosis, thalassemia, cirrhosis, chronic pancreatitis, acute and chronic kidney damage, rheumatoid arthritis. <\/p>\n
