TSH is produced in the pituitary gland and instructs the thyroid gland to synthesize hormones. The test is performed for the diagnosis and monitoring of hypothyroidism therapy. Thyrotropin (TSH) is a hormone secreted from the anterior pituitary lobe under the stimulating effect of thyroliberin (TRH = thyroid-releasing factor = Thyrotropin-releasing hormone). TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) controls thyroid function. The regulation of T3 and T4 hormone secretion represents a negative feedback mechanism involving: the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, thyroid, and the concentration of free T3 and T4 in circulation. Thyroliberin (TRH = thyroid-releasing factor = Thyrotropin-releasing hormone) from the hypothalamus stimulates TSH secretion from the adenohypophysis, and TSH stimulates the synthesis and secretion of T3 and T4 hormones.     <\/p>\n<p><strong>DETERMINATION:<\/strong><br \/>\nMethod of determination: ECLIA. The sample for analysis is serum or plasma (heparin or EDTA). The sample is stable for 7 days at 2-8\u00b0C, and 1 month at -20\u00b0C.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>RESULTS:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe reference interval depends on sex, age, and the determination method.
