They are used as an aid in diagnosis, monitoring disease progression, and assessing treatment efficacy. Although also present in gangliomas, S100 is primarily used for melanoma diagnosis due to its abundance in melanocytes. A positive correlation has been found with disease stage, and serum S100 concentrations also correlate with the number of affected organs, the presence of liver or bone metastases, and the response to chemo- or immunotherapy. Elevated concentrations in peripheral blood are specific and sensitive for tumor progression.    <\/p>\n<p><strong>METHOD:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe determination method is ECLIA. The sample for analysis is serum only.
