The test strip examines the following parameters: pH, specific gravity, proteins, glucose, ketones, nitrites, presence of leukocytes and erythrocytes, bilirubin, urobilinogen, ketones, and other parameters depending on the test strip manufacturer. Microscopic examination of the sediment identifies organized (epithelial cells (squamous epithelium), individual leukocytes and erythrocytes, occasionally spermatozoa or microorganisms) and unorganized (various salts in crystalline or amorphous form) elements of urine sediment.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:<\/strong><br \/>\nDepending on the quantity of elements present, urine sediment may indicate the presence of a pathological condition of the urinary system or common urinary infections. Abnormal sediment may contain various types of casts, erythrocytes, leukocytes, bacteria, parasites and their eggs, as well as abnormal components of unorganized sediment. Casts are actually molds of the kidney&#8217;s collecting tubules and have the shape of the tubule section in which they formed. Only hyaline casts can occasionally be found in normal urine. Abnormal urine sediment findings require further analysis and medical evaluation. If an abnormal number of bacteria is present, a urine culture is required.
