DESCRIPTION:
IgA represents about 10 to 15% of the total immunoglobulins found in the serum. It is found in tears, sweat, saliva, breast milk, bronchial and intestinal secretions. Its role is to protect the respiratory and intestinal tract from viral infections. It does not cross the placenta, and in children it reaches adult concentrations after 15 years of age.
DETERMINATION:
Determination method: Turbidimetric determination method. Sample: Serum or plasma (hepatin or EDTA) The sample is stable for 7 days at 2-8°C, 3 months at -20°C. Samples that are hemolyzed and/or lipemic are not suitable for analysis.

The reference interval depends on gender, age and the method of determination. The reference interval is displayed on each validated result.
